Renowned for his genre-defining "silkpunk" epics and deeply moving short fiction like The Paper Menagerie, Liu returns with thirteen new tales exploring what it means to be human in a world shaped by rapidly shifting technology.

Speakers
Ken Liu is an award-winning American author of speculative fiction. His collection, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, has been published in more than a dozen languages. Liu’s other works include The Grace of Kings, The Wall of Storms, The Veiled Throne, a second collection The Hidden Girl and Other Stories, and the forthcoming Julia Z series. He has been involved in multiple media adaptations of his work, including the short story “Good Hunting,” adapted as an episode in Netflix’s animated series Love, Death + Robots; and AMC’s Pantheon, adapted from an interconnected series of short stories. “The Hidden Girl,” “The Message,” and “The Oracle” have also been optioned for development. Liu previously worked as a software engineer, corporate lawyer, and litigation consultant. He frequently speaks at conferences and universities on topics including futurism, machine-augmented creativity, the history of technology, and the value of storytelling. Liu lives with his family near Boston, Massachusetts.
Alex Shvartsman (moderator) is the author of The Best of All Possible Planets (2026), Kakistocracy (2023), The Middling Affliction (2022), and Eridani’s Crown (2019). Over 150 of his stories and his translations from Russian have appeared in Analog, Asimov’s Clarkesworld, F&SF, Nature, Reactor, Strange Horizons, and several Year’s Best volumes. He won the WSFA Small Press Award for Short Fiction, and was a three-time finalist for each the Canopus Award for Excellence in Interstellar Fiction and the BSFA Award. For a brief, glorious moment one of his stories was in development as a live action TV series. He has edited nearly twenty anthologies, including the long-running Unidentified Funny Objects series, as well as The Digital Aesthete, The Cackle of Cthulhu, Humanity 2.0 and many more.. He has worked on many games and is presently the Narrative Director for Card Advantage Games, working on the Reclusion video game.
