This event is for the curious cooks, food nerds, and anyone who wants to master a dish by making, sharing, and eating it together.
We're peeling back the layers—literally.
Scallion pancakes aren’t just a side dish—they’re a whole universe. Thick and chewy, thin and crispy, rolled, folded, twisted… every version tells a different story from somewhere in China or the Chinese diaspora. This event is about digging into all of that! 👌
Here’s how it works:
Part 1: Tasting + Sharing 🥢
Think of it like a cookbook club—but reversed. It is not a requirement but highly suggested: You’ll pick a recipe or nominate your own via this spreadsheet, make a few scallion pancakes at home, and bring them to share. It doesn’t need to be perfect—this is about exploring the range of techniques and styles, side by side. Rooted Eats will provide some scallion pancakes, fun dipping sauces, pairings, and drinks.
Part 2: Live Podcast Recording 🎙️
Sarah will sit down with chef Isabel Lee of Forsyth Fire Escape—home of New York City's most iconic scallion-pancake burritos—for a live interview and Q&A. We’ll dig into its flaky history in the U.S., swap stories and get your questions answered!
The registration covers food, beverage, and the operation cost of the event. Once you sign up, please claim your recipe on the Google spreadsheet to coordinate with fellow guests.
